Trainings for patronage nurses related to gender-based violence

In July and August, a total of 4 two-day trainings for patronage nurses were held in the organization of the National Association of Medical Nurses, Technicians and Midwives, and one of the topics was gender-based violence – forms and system of protection. The aim of this part of the training was for the patronage nurses to increase their knowledge about the forms of gender-based and domestic violence, how to recognize it, where to report/refer and how to support the victim within their competences and possibilities.

At the invitation of the president of the association, the trainers of these trainings were representatives of the National Network team.

The participants were educated about the types of violence that the victims can suffer at home, which can be easily visible, but can also be hidden and difficult to recognize, and they were familiarized with the legal regulations, as well as what are their obligations in case they recognize violence in the home. Through working on practical examples and playing roles, they also acquired soft skills to communicate with victims, potential victims and perpetrators, with a particular emphasis on children, women, and the elderly. The participants improved their knowledge and awareness of the existing protection mechanisms and specialized services managed by civil society organizations that are available for them for consultation, reporting violence, or personal protection in case of reporting violence.

The trainings also contributed to a better acquaintance of the teams from both organizations and opened the possibility for future cooperation and partnership.
