Promotion of “Analysis of the situation and provision of sustainable services for help and support to women victims of gender-based violence”

On December 7th, at the premises of the municipality of Kavadarci, was held the Promotion of “Analysis of the situation and provision of sustainable services for help and support of women victims of gender-based violence” prepared by our partner organization Association for Gender Equality – Vizija, Kavadarci, which includes 4 municipalities – Kavadarci, Rosoman, Negotino and Demir Kapija.

The purpose of the analysis is to provide an overview of the national and local policies, as well as the availability of existing services for help and support to women and children victims of gender-based and domestic violence, to give an overall picture of the situation on this issue in the Tikvesh region.

Analyzing the situation in the Tikvesh region, specifically in the municipalities of Kavadarci, Negotino, Rosoman and Demir Kapija, the obtained data show that there is a lack of a systemic approach in dealing with the problem of violence against women and domestic violence. Victims of gender-based and domestic violence are not recognized as a special vulnerable category in social protection programs in these municipalities, and no measures are foreseen for their protection and support. The only provision is financial assistance for victims of domestic violence, which is not used due to the lack of requests for this type of support.

In this region, there is only one specialized service Women’s Support Center Kavadarci which is a counseling center for help and support of women and children victims of gender-based and domestic violence, financially supported by the municipalities of Kavadarci, Negotino, Demir Kapija and Rosoman, and managed by a women’s civil organization. The center was opened in September 2022 and funds have been provided for its work for a period of one year.

In the Tikvesh region there is no shelter – center for taking care of women and children victims of gender-based and domestic violence, and according to the minimum standards of the Council of Europe recommended by the Istanbul Convention, at least 7 family places should be provided according to the number of inhabitants.

Furthermore, there is no center for victims of sexual violence and rape in the region, the establishment and management of which is the responsibility of the Ministry of Health.

The entire analysis, available only in the Macedonian language, can be read at the following link.

The document was prepared within the framework of the project “Advocacy for the provision of sustainable assistance and support services for women victims of gender-based and family violence in the municipality of Kavadarci and Rosoman” of the Association for Gender Equality “Vizija” – Kavadarci as part of the project On the way to EU: Prevention of violence against women in the Republic of North Macedonia” financed by the Foundation “Kvinna till Kvinna” (The Kvinna till Kvina Fondation), and implemented by the National Network to End Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.
