Is violence against women a priority of national institutions?

On December 19, 2023. under the title “Is violence against women and children a priority of national institutions?”, an event was held to promote the contribution to the Universal Periodic Review Report (UPR) on violence against women and children. In addition, the findings of the Summary report from the monitoring of the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Istanbul Convention (2018-2023) were also presented, as well as the thematic report entitled “Domestic violence as an indicator of child delinquency”.

The experts who presented the reports highlighted worrying facts about the situation of violence against women and children. From the findings presented, it was clear that the state does not consider this issue as a priority, and there are more challenges that need to be resolved as soon as possible.

The contribution to the UPR Report was presented by Elena Dimushevska, who prepared the report itself, and additionally prepared a document that addressed in more detail the issues of violence against women in N. Macedonia. It is an additional and extensive submission to the Universal Periodic Review for North Macedonia, which was submitted together with Advocates for Human Rights. The submission can be read at the following link.

This activity was carried out with the support of the European Policy Institute (EPI) as part of the re-granting scheme “Human Rights in Practice”.
