5 topics with 5 psychologists: How to build relationships without violence – a series of free online workshops

Violence often manifests in diverse and subtle ways, making it imperative to comprehend its complex dynamics. In an effort to enhance public understanding and strengthen intimate relationships, the National Network to End Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence organized a series of online workshops featuring five esteemed psychotherapists, recognized for their extensive work with violence survivors. These workshops addressed violence from various perspectives:

  1. [November 23, 2023] From honeymoon to suffering: Understanding the Dynamics of Domestic Violence

Led by Despina Stojanovska, a licensed psychologist, systemic and family psychotherapist, and experienced adult trainer, the inaugural workshop delved into the cycle of violence, different types of violence, and roles within violent acts. Attendees developed empathy and gained insight into the dilemmas and challenges faced by victims seeking to leave abusive environments.

  1. [November 30, 2023] Parenting Amidst Crisis: Strengthening Bonds Between Parents and Children

Radmila Živanović, a licensed psychologist, psychotherapist, and career counselor, facilitated the second workshop, offering essential guidance on nurturing parent-child relationships during times of crisis. Parents learned strategies for choosing words that convey understanding and alleviate children’s feelings of abandonment, invisibility, burden, and guilt.

  1. [December 7, 2023] Identifying Red Flags in Teenage Relationships: Recognizing Risky Behaviors

Frosina Ivanovska, a psychotherapist at our Women’s Support Center – Skopje with extensive experience in gender and domestic violence and a master of psychological sciences, led the third workshop. Participants analyzed various scenarios to determine the healthiness of teenage relationships, identify violations of good relationship principles, and explore corrective actions.

  1. [December 14, 2023] From Aggressiveness to Assertiveness: Nonviolent Communication for Coping with Children’s Intense Emotions

Irena Zhungulova, the children psychotherapist at our Women’s Support Center – Skopje, as well as the co-author, performer and coordinator of children’s development stimulation workshops and materials, conducted the fourth workshop. Participants learned techniques for assertively expressing their views and needs, with a focus on using “I” messages to foster healthy communication and address intense emotions in children.

  1. [December 21, 2023] Dispelling Myths Surrounding Parental Alienation: Safeguarding Children Amidst Relationship Breakdowns

Andromahi Naumovska, a licensed psychologist and psychotherapist specializing in child and youth mental health, employed at the Mental Health Service for Children and Youth at Zdravstven dom – Skopje, facilitated the final workshop. Attendees explored strategies for preventing parental alienation and minimizing its impact on children when exiting violent relationships.

These workshops are part of the project “Counseling Centers for Women and Children Victims of Gender-Based and Domestic Violence,” financially supported by the City of Skopje and implemented by the National Network to End Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence.
