Promising practices of establishing and providing specialized support services for women victims of sexual violence

The proposed policy aims to serve national policy makers and women’s civil society organizations in the Western Balkans and Turkey as a learning tool in establishing and providing support services to women and children victims of sexual violence, which can be incorporated into the national service provision framework.

In order to overcome the identified shortcomings in the region related to the provision of specialized services to support victims of sexual violence, the policy proposal emphasizes the promising practices that exist and are implemented by women’s civil society organizations and other stakeholders. Furthermore, the document assesses the need for specialist support for victims of sexual violence, expanding on the principles, concepts and rationale underlying the rape crisis intervention model, drawing in part on experience and standards developed in Ireland.

The document was developed with the help of two international experts, Biljana Branković, consultant of the International Council of Europe and the Group of Experts оn Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) Serbia and Kliona Saidlear, director of the rape victim support network ( Rape Crisis Network Ireland).

7 women’s organizations from Albania, Kosovo, Turkey, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and North Macedonia, partner organizations of the Women against Violence Europe (WAVE), participated in its preparation.
