“The Importance of Gender Equality in Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls” – a series of panel discussions in multiple cities across the country

During November and December, the National Network organized 3 panel discussions in 3 cities, which are part of a series of such events that continue in 2025 across the country. The events on the topic “The Importance of Gender Equality for Preventing Violence against Women and Girls” were held on November 27, 2024. in Kichevo, November 29, 2024. in Skopje and December 5, 2024. in Gostivar.

The concept of these panel discussions is focused on the various aspects of gender equality and how they affect gender-based and domestic violence. Therefore, the panels themselves had several speakers who spoke about a certain aspect that is in their expertise. So, the panelists were: Ana Bojchevska Mitreska and Irina Jolevska (Reaktor) who spoke about the gender pay gap, Uranija Pirovska (Helsinki Committee) who spoke about women’s labor rights, Liljana Jonoski (Rural Coalition) and Biljana Petrovska Mitrevska (National Federation of Farmers) spoke about the challenges of rural women, Aleksandra Ilovska (Public) and Klimentina Ilievski (Public) who spoke about social mentoring and economic empowerment of vulnerable women, Biljana Dukovska (Macedonian Platform Against Poverty) covered the topic of female poverty, and Ana Avramoska Nushkova and Elena Dimushevska from the National Network spoke about gender-based violence and gender equality.

The events were attended by local institutions and organizations, as well as citizens, where fruitful discussions developed on these issues, which indicates that very few such events are organized locally where opinions and information on gender equality can be shared and heard.

These activities are part of the regional project “Defendint of the Right to Be MYSELF” implemented in North Macedonia and Kosovo, funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
