Public debate on the proposed amendments and additions to the Criminal Code

Today, the fifth session of the Commission for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men was held, where the only item on the agenda was a public hearing on the proposed amendments to the Criminal Code.

The speakers at the public hearing were the Minister of Justice Bojan Maricic, the executive director from the Center for Research and Policy Making Marija Risteska and Ana Avramoska Nushkova, project coordinator and legal expert from the National Network against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.

The hearing began with the presentation of the proposed changes by the Minister of Justice, which are aimed at harmonizing the Criminal Code with the provisions of the Istanbul Convention. The representative from the National Network presented the proposed amendments to the Criminal Code, prepared by the National Network and the Platform for Gender Equality, in the direction of improving the protection of victims of gender-based and family violence in the criminal justice area.

At the session itself, Academician Vlado Kambovski took the floor and was part of the working group that worked on the preparation of amendments and additions to the CC, and who agreed that some of the proposed amendments and additions presented in the document prepared by the National Network and Gender Platform are real and necessary to be inserted.
