On September 4, 2025, the National Network against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, together with the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, organized a workshop at which the multisectoral body for monitoring cases of femicide and attempted femicide was officially established.
The workshop was held within the framework of the project “Femicide Observatory – Prevention and Monitoring of Femicide and Attempted Femicide in North Macedonia”, supported by the OSCE Mission in Skopje. The project was implemented by the National Network and the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, the Council of Public Prosecutors, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Judicial Council, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth.
The participants in attendance emphasized the importance of this step in ensuring a systemic and coordinated approach to the prevention and monitoring of femicide.
At the event, Elena Dimusevska, Executive Director of the National Network, presented the methodology of the Observatory on Femicide. Susan Penksa, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission in Skopje, emphasized in her address that the initiative sends a strong message of unity of institutions in the fight against femicide. Additionally, Uranija Pirovska from the Helsinki Committee emphasized that reducing the number of murders and attempted murders of women is possible only through joint and coordinated action of all competent institutions.
The conclusion of the workshop is that joint engagement and active cooperation will enable more efficient monitoring of cases, as well as the creation of policies for better protection and prevention of gender-based violence.
