Promotion of “Analysis of the situation with violence against women and domestic violence and access to specialized services for help and support in the municipality of Veles”

On November 30th, at hotel Intercontinental in Veles, was held an analysis of the situation with violence against women and domestic violence and access to specialized services for help and support in the municipality of Veles, which analysis included three municipalities from the Vardar region, namely Veles, Čaška and Gradsko, and it was prepared by our partner organization Women’s Organization of the municipality of Veles.

The purpose of this analysis is to see the actual situation for the available services for help and support for women and children victims of gender-based and domestic violence in the municipality of Veles, as well as to offer recommendations and solutions to improve the existing systems and establish new  specialized services.

According to the data obtained from the research carried out in 2021, there were two murders during domestic violence in the municipality of Veles. In the same year, there were also two attempted murders during domestic violence.

Regarding the available specialized services, there is one shelter center with 2 family places in the municipality of Veles. According to the number of residents in the municipality of Veles, municipality of Gradsko and municipality of Čaška, which is 65,000, there should be a shelter center with at least 7 family places, and there is no crisis center for victims of sexual violence and rape.

In the municipality of Veles there is 1 counseling center which has limited spatial and human resources.

The document was prepared within the framework of the project “Establishment of a psycho-social support service for women and children victims of domestic violence” implemented by the Women’s Organization of the Municipality of Veles, within the framework of the project “On the way to EU: Ending violence against women in Republic of North Macedonia “ financed by the “Kvinna till Kvinna” Foundation, and implemented by the National Network to end violence against women and domestic violence.
