The analysis provides an overview of whether\nand to what extent the Government Work Program for 2020-2024 includes the\ngender aspect in the activities planned for the next 4 years. In order to\nbetter understand the context of gender equality and the political will to\npromote gender equality, the analysis considers the election programs of SDSM\nand DUI, which are currently in their second mandate as leaders of the\nGovernment of the Republic of North Macedonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is commendable that gender equality is\nincreasingly recognized as important for the progress of RNM and as a goal\nwithout which the country cannot have successful European integration, but also\ngood governance and functional democracy. The cycle of the last two early\nelections 2017\/2020 shows an increase in the goals related to gender equality\nin the election programs, which shows that political parties are slowly\nbeginning to show interest in reducing the social and gender gap between women\nand men. However, this does not confirm that the work of the Government in the\npast three years has been fully focused on promoting gender equality, because\nsome of the pre-election goals have not been implemented at all in the 3-year\nterm of the SDSM-DUI coalition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the identified shortcomings is the lack\nof a systemic institutional approach led by adequate staff and experts who will\ncoordinate strategic commitments for gender equality at the national level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Women victims of domestic violence in the Government Program are not recognized as a special category with specific needs<\/strong>, although the election program provides that employment measures and other assistance and support measures will be adjusted according to the specific needs of women victims of violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
