The National Network to End Violence against\nWomen and Domestic Violence in partnership with the Women\u2019s Parliamentarian\nClub of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia organized a panel\ndiscussion on the topic \u201cDraft-Model for\nReintegration and Rehabilitation of Women-Victims of Domestic Violence\u201d <\/em>held\ntoday, 25 November \u2013 the International Day for Elimination of Violence against\nWomen which also marked the start of the global campaign \u201c16 Days of Activism\nto Stop Violence against Women\u201d.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was opened by the President of the Women\u2019s\nParliamentarian Club of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia.\nGjulumser Kasapi, who talked about the importance of all relevant actors coming\ntogether to end violence against women and girls and underlined the commitment\nof the Women\u2019s Parliamentarian Club to the promotion of the system for\nprevention and protection from violence against women. <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel discussion was opened with a\npresentation of the findings from the analysis\n\u201cEconomic challenges faced by women-victims of domestic violence who want to\nleave the violent environment\u201d and the \u201cDraft-model for reintegration and\nrehabilitation of women-victims of domestic violence\u201d <\/strong>developed by the\nNational Network to End Violence against Women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the speakers at the panel discussion were Snezhana Kaleska Vancheva \u2013 MP from SDSM, Blagica Lasovska \u2013 MP from VMRO-DPMNE, Julijana Nikolova \u2013 MP from LDP and Maja Morachanin \u2013 MP from DOM. The aim was to review and discuss the legal possibilities for adoption of the model for rehabilitation and reintegration of women-victims of domestic violence who have decided to leave the violent environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The need for conducting the analysis and\ndeveloping the draft-model for reintegration stems from the acknowledgment that the economic\ninstability of women-victims of domestic violence has been recognized as one of\nthe main reasons why victims stay in the violent environment, and also as one\nof the biggest challenges faced by women-victims after they leave the violent\nenvironment. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last OSCE\nresearch on the Balkan region from 2018 included North Macedonia. The key\nfindings from the research indicate that 60% of women-victims of IPV were controlled by the perpetrator, had little\nor restricted access to finances, and their children were used as a means of\nblackmailing them against leaving their partner<\/strong>. Of all the\nwomen-respondents, 1 in 5 or 19% were\nvictims of economic violence<\/strong> by their partner. Women who had suffered\ndomestic violence in the past but were in no position to leave the violent\nenvironment because they were unable to provide for themselves and their\nchildren have experienced recurrent\nviolence in various forms in the last 12 months (42%).<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering\nthe different economic circumstances in the Republic of Macedonia, measures and\npolicies are needed for the women-victims of violence who are economically\ndependent on the perpetrators to be able to more easily make the decision of\nleaving the violent environment and start the process of social reintegration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The draft-model for reintegration and\nrehabilitation <\/strong>includes all aspects which are key to making the decision to\nleave the violent environment, such as: housing,\nfinancial support, psychological counseling, education and training and\nemployment assistance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nevent was organized as part of the Project \u201cAdvocating for Adoption of Social\nPackage for Support of the Victims of Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence\u201d\nimplemented by the National Network to End violence against Women and Domestic\nViolence and financed by the sub-granting program of the project \u201cStrategic\nPartnership to Develop Social Agenda for Change: Recognize, Respect and Realize\nRights\u201d financed by the EU and implemented by the  Association for Action\nAgainst Violence and Human Trafficking Open Gate: La Strada.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
