{"id":2317,"date":"2015-07-25T13:48:05","date_gmt":"2015-07-25T13:48:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/glasprotivnasilstvo.org.mk\/?p=2317"},"modified":"2017-08-25T11:09:25","modified_gmt":"2017-08-25T11:09:25","slug":"24-07-2015-concluding-observations-of-the-un-human-rights-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glasprotivnasilstvo.org.mk\/en\/24-07-2015-concluding-observations-of-the-un-human-rights-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"24.07.2015: Concluding Observations of the UN Human Rights Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UN Human Rights Committee published the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/tbinternet.ohchr.org\/_layouts\/treatybodyexternal\/SessionDetails1.aspx?SessionID=899&amp;Lang=en\">Concluding Observations<\/a><\/em>\u00a0for the Republic of Macedonia, following the consideration of the 3rd periodic country report under the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.<\/p>\n<p>The main concerns and recommendations are related to 19 issues, among which: discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity; procedural obstacles to voluntary termination of pregnancy; conditions of detention for migrants and asylum seekers; lack of information on the measures to tackle human trafficking etc.<br \/>\nRegarding domestic violence, the Committee expressed their concerns about the lack of information on the sanctions for perpetrators of violence, as well as about the legal remedies for victims.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee for the Republic of Macedonia recommended:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Thorough investigation of cases of domestic violence, prosecution of perpetrators, punishment with appropriate sanctions, access to legal remedies and protection of\u00a0victims, including\u00a0an adequate number of shelters available in all parts of the country;<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Elimination of violence against women and children, as well as recognizing\u00a0violence against women and children as a specific criminal act in the Penal Code;<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Concrete measures to ensure access to specialized assistance to all\u00a0victims of domestic violence, particularly to unmarried mothers who are between 16\u00a0and 18 years old;<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Continuing carrying out awareness-raising campaigns to sensitize the\u00a0population on the prevention of and protection against domestic violence;<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Organizing training sessions for local authorities, as well as social workers and medical personnel,\u00a0on how to detect and\u00a0adequately advise victims of domestic violence;<\/p>\n<p>The Committee also requests that the Republic of Macedonia: &#8220;should avoid pursuing any further campaigns used to stigmatize those\u00a0who undergo abortions.
