During February, the second meeting with civil society organizations was held following the initial meeting for the presentation of the findings of the UPP (Universal Periodic Review<\/a>) of human rights, which was held in December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Namely, the team of the National Network participated in the preparation of the Report for the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights for Northern Macedonia, together with 6 other organizations, as grantees of the Institute for European Politics – EPI Skopje. At the initial meeting, apart from the presentation of the findings of the UPP, the next steps to improve the situation with violence against women and children in S. Macedonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The second meeting focused on sharing opinions and recommendations on communication messages that would be used in a campaign to fight against anti-gender movements. Most organizations consider the issue of violence against women and children to be a unifying issue for most relevant stakeholders as well as citizens. It should be leading, and in addition to convey messages about gender equality, and some individual rights\/aspects that are most strongly affected, such as: female poverty, the right to maternity leave for farmers, the gender wage gap, comprehensive sexual education and others. Specific proposals for messages were also given, which will be finalized and used within other projects, in order to be presented during the pre-elections against the pre-election campaigns of the parties. The discussion continued in the direction of the presidential and parliamentary elections, which the participants followed up on regarding the proposal of the Law on Gender Equality and the Strategy that should succeed the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Istanbul Convention (2018-2023).<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The discussion continued in the direction of proactivity towards the competent institutions through the upcoming March for the 8th of March, where the demands of the civil sector can be expressed through the messages and banners that will be shared at the march. In that direction, the slogan for the march was devised – Red Line, referring to all red lines that must not be crossed in relation to women’s rights and protection from violence against women and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


This activity was carried out with the support of the European Policy Institute (EPI) as part of the “Human Rights in Practice” re-granting scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
